Many people
visiting my prayer and reflection site
http://plerosariaantiqua.freeservers.com, was asking me about the meaning of
the title “IN NOMINE PATRIS ET FILII ET SPIRITUS SANCTI”
“In nomine Patris et Filii et
Spiritus Sancti” are Latin words that mean in English “In the name of Father
and of Son and of Holy Spirit.”.
It’s a very
ancient prayer formula expressing two basic Christian faith truths: with the
words, we proclaim the Unity and the Trinity of God: so God is one (Deuteronomy VI, 4), but He has revealed to
us, through the Christ , that He (the unique God) is Father God Creator, Son
God Saviour, Holy Spirit God sanctifying;
this is a Faith Mystery because our limited human mind can’t understand
the God nature if He doesn’t reveal it to us.
Saying this prayer words, we make a cross on our person (this prayer is also knowing as
“Sign of the cross") meaning God has united His divine nature with our
human nature in Jesus Christ, “God with us”, He is dead for us on the cross and
he is risen from the death.
The Christ
resurrection from the death is extremely important for the Christian faith
because it is proof of the Christ divinity, of the certainty of his revelation,
of the victory on the death and moreover hope of our resurrection and our
eternal life.
With this simple prayer, the “Sign of the
cross", we begin any our action as to work, to eat, to sleep, to wake
up….…..it means we made anything in the name of God (God Father, Son and Holy
Spirit), so any our action becomes prayer, adoration, love and thanks to God.
